Light Lambs dearer, Heavy Lambs cheaper and strong Sheep market at Ballarat

Yarding - 39,641 (+9030).
Lambs - 25,682 (+4138).
Sheep - 13,959 (+4892).

Lamb numbers increased to 25,682 yarded, the quality was exceptional with plenty of weight on offer across the yarding and several pens of over 30kg/cwt lambs off feed selling to $378/head. Not all the usual buying group were in attendance, the market was firm to slightly dearer on the light trade and store lambs and the heavy lambs were back $10 to $20/head. Strong competition from feeders and restockers had lambs going back to the paddocks selling from $120 to $235/head.

Light weight lamb, 12 to 18kg, sold from $129 to $183/head to average 1,000c/kg cwt. Trade lambs, 18 to 22kg, sold from $183 to$225/head to average around 970c/kg cwt. Lambs, 22 to 24kg, sold from $210 to $233/head, making from 913c to 1,000c to average around955c/kg cwt. 4 score lambs, 24 to 26kg, sold from $231 to $249/head to average around 950c/kg cwt. Heavy export 4 score, 26 to 30kglambs, sold from $240 to $280 to average 930c and extra heavy over 30kg lambs sold from $272 to $378/head to average around 890c/kg cwt.

Sheep numbers increased with 13,959 yarded with a very good offering of all weights, in a very strong market to be firm to dearer in places.Light weight sheep sold from $103 to $145/head to average 690c/kg cwt. Medium weight sheep sold from $125 to $190/head to average around 680c/kg cwt. Heavy sheep, 24 to 30kg, sold from $146 to $210 and over 30kg sold from $190 to $250/head. Heavy Merino ewes averaged 715c and heavy crossbred ewes averaged 680c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino wethers sold from $175 to $222 and medium weights sold from $122 to $185/head to average around 700c/kg cwt. Rams sold to $140/head
