Lambs ease, Sheep dearer at Ballarat

Lamb numbers increased again this week to 30,492 yarded. The quality was excellent with plenty of weight on offer across the yarding. All the usual buying group attended and operated in an easier market to be $2 to $10/head back on last week's levels. Restockers and feeders were active paying from $88 to $185/head. Lambs sold to $226 and shorn lambs sold to $180/head.

Light weight 2 score lambs, 12-18kg, sold from $108 to $137/head to average 730c/kg cwt. Light trade 2 and 3 score lambs, 18-22kg, sold from $133 to $167/head to average 710c/kg cwt. Lambs, 22-24kg sold from $160 to$179/head, making from 680c to 741c to average706c/kg cwt. Heavy 3 to 4 score lambs, 24-26kg sold from $176.5 to $192/head to average around 710c/kg cwt. Export lambs, 26-30kg sold from $192 to $216/head to average 705c/kg cwt. Extra heavy export lambs over 30kg sold from $215 to $226/head. Hogget's sold from $126to $193 for crossbreds and Merinos sold to $148/head.

Sheep numbers declined to 12,970 yarded, the quality was plain to outstanding with large lines of very heavy sheep on offer across the yarding both crossbreds and Merinos. All the usual buying group attended and operated in a very strong market to be firm to dearer. Lightweight 1 and 2 score sheep made from $85 to $130 to average 605c/kg cwt. Medium weight 2 and 3 score sheep sold from $108 to$161/head making from 547c to 661c with Merino mutton averaging around 630c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $150 to $183/head, averaging 630c, heavy crossbred ewes sold from $157 to $213/head to average 570c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino wethers sold from $157 to $220, medium weights sold from $120 to $175/head to average around 620c/kg cwt. Rams sold from $70 to $200/head. >
