Demand for well covered Mutton at Ballarat

Yarding - 10,286 (-3,166).

Lambs - 7,206 (-2,370).

Sheep - 3,080 (-796).

Lamb supply eased to 7,206 and sheep also easing to 3,080 to total 10,286 head yarded. The usual buying group attended but didn't operate fully in the lamb sale. The quality was mixed with some well finished grain fed lamb on offer in the 22kg to 26kg categories selling to $237 to average around 860c/kg cwt and the heavy weight lambs sold to $248 to be around $5 to $10/head back on last week and more in places.

Light weight 2 score lambs, 12kg to 18kg, sold from $96 to $154/head to average 740c/kg cwt. Light trade 2 and 3 score lambs 18kg to 22kg sold from $158 to $198/head to average 810c/kg cwt. Medium trade weight 3 and 4 score lambs 22kg to 24kg sold from $170 to $220/head, ranging from 722c to 922c to average 870c/kg cwt. Heavy 3 to 4 score trade weight lambs 24kg to 26kg sold from $220 to $237/head to average around 860c/kg cwt. Export lambs 26kg to 30kg sold from $220 to $248/head to average 850c/kg cwt. Restockers and feeder paid from $135 to $145 and for very light weights $70 to $115/head. Hoggets sold from $80 to $224 for crossbreds and Merino's sold from $105 to $142/head.

Sheep quality was average to good with all the usual buying group operating fully with high demand on well covered mutton. The sheep market hold firm to slightly dearer on last weeks levels. Heavy Merino ewes selling to $177 and Merino wethers selling to $184/head.

Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep sold from $50 to $95/head to average 550c/kg cwt. Medium weight 2 and 3 score sheep sold from $113 to$155 ranging from 539c to 674c with heavy Merino ewes sold from $160 to $177/head averaging 620c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino wethers sold from $140 to $184, medium weights sold from $110 to $160/head to average around 615c/kg cwt. Heavy 3 to 5 score crossbred sheep sold from $146 to $200/head to average 600c/kg cwt. Rams sold from $30 to $ 160/head.
