Who's going to lead? - Succession, we reckon it's one of the biggest, if not the biggest, issues in Ag. And we probably bang on about it a lot, but we think it's important to keep bringing it up. 

For me, it's about someone taking the lead. Someone in the family has to be bold enough to get it on the table. That might mean touching base with a succession planner before you mention it to the family. They will have experience on how to go about the initial approach and will be able to help you through the process. 

If you're not a combative person, then it's just easier to sweep it under the carpet and save it for Ron (later on). But at some point, Ron is going to rare its ugly head. If left long enough, you will be dealing with it in a cure sense, but if you address it early, then you will be dealing with it in a preventative sense.

We have all seen Farming family relationships destroyed over succession non-action. But on the bright side, we have seen many Farming families become closer and walk away content with the whole process and outcome of getting the job done. Over to you.
