What's Hot in Farming

By Dwain Duxson

Check out the latest Hay Report here.

We have certainly gained some good listings since the Toyota Hilux beaut Ute giveaway started on July 1.

Let's do some numbers. Let's say there are 15 listings and 10 sales over $20k daily, and the competition runs for 167 days. That might be a little conservative, might not, but it means you have a 1 in 4175 chance of taking the prize home. And some of you will be entered multiple times, which increases your odds. Worth having a crack at, we reckon.

Sales have been steady and have come off a little since the end of June. This seems to happen in July every year. There is still plenty selling, it's just not the volumes of back then. That will change, though.

I have noticed that we are listing and selling more Utes. And I have also noticed an uptick in wanted ads, with more and more getting filled. It's a great way to try and prize some specific out.

There are a few rare items around ATM, things like Chaser Bins, Tipper Trailers, Disc & Prickle Chains, Pick up & Draper Fronts, Windrowers, and Stock Trailers. These things are hard to come by and in demand.

The overall trends for the 7 days just gone include Disc Chains, Tractors, Utes, Air Carts, Oaten Hay, Silage, Urea, Corn Fronts and Sprayers.

On the Grain front, several parcels of Feed Barley made $370, $375, and $400 a tonne, and some Feed Wheat made $350.

All prices are ex Farm.

This is what the sales guys said happened this week:

Shane said -  Lots of Grain and Hay enquiries over the past week, along with Grain Storage items and Augers. No real trend apart from that, but talking to growers in the Southern States, and they are drying up a bit with the number of frosts around. They are looking for a drink and also to wash in some Fert that's sitting there.

Paul said - The last week has seen a lot more of the same being nibbled at with Machinery dominating the Sales. Tractors, Headers, Spreaders and Tillage equipment seem to still be popular. I have also seen a slight uptake in Hay and Straw enquiries as people are looking to stretch pasture and/or Grain or other dietary requirements. There are still some handy parcels of Hay that are feed tested up on the site, but like all things, at the minute, they wont be up there forever.

Mike said - Bit of a mixed bag this week, a bit like a kid in a lolly shop, everything from Trucks, Spray Rigs, Kelly Chains, Motors, Hay and Seeders all selling this last week.

There is a bit of a shortage of early maturing Wheat as some in the north try and finish Cropping while others are resigned to the fact that they might put a summer Crop in instead.

Keep those listings coming and see what else sold here.

End of message.
