Check out the latest Hay Report here, hot off the keyboard last night

I was talking to a Farmer yesterday who had just finished Sowing. He said it was the most expensive Crop the family had ever planted since they started Farming that Land. It's an interesting comment when you think about it. Scary too.

I know of a couple of businesses in the Machinery game that is budgeting on around half the revenue for the 23/24 year compared to the financial year we are in now. Most of it is based on the lack of availability of Machines, and some of it is due to higher costs for Farmers and believing the run of good seasons must be close to ending. Getting people would also pay a part.

Last week was nearly a record week for sales for us. We had a ripper week selling Urea, Hay and Machinery. Ellen at the PAC has been winning fans by creating transparency in the Fertiliser market by revealing prices through her Monday text to a couple of hundred subscribers (if you want to join, text Ellen on 0418 137 224 and type "Fert Report, please").

The model for buying Fertiliser has changed over the years. I remember going into town to the local supplier, filling the Grouper with MAP, and heading back to the paddock, repeat, then repeat again. Now everything is collected at the Port by the Farmers and stored on Farm in purpose-built Fertiliser Storages.

Fertiliser has been a real growth area for us, and we can only hope the prices retreat to a much more palatable level.

The overall trends for the last 7 days include Urea, Stockcrates, Airseeders, Draper Fronts, Pick-up Fronts, Oaten Hay, Vetch Hay, Speed Tillers, Tractors, Working Dogs, Spreaders, Headers and Tractor Tyres.

On the Grain front, we sold Feed Oats at $210 a tonne and Lentils at $850 a tonne.

All prices are ex Farm.

This is what the sales guys said happened this week:

Shane said - Another solid week with Airseeders, Hay Balers and Spreaders being sort after. There's still lots happening with the New Machinery Market causing some issues with some items not available for up to 18-24 months, making the second hand market tight and more expensive.

Paul said - The word on the street is Manufacturing lead times are blowing out across the board. I realise that I am far from delivering ground breaking news here. But an all too common response when following up enquiries is, I wasn't quick enough, or I have been watching that one for a week and I missed it.

We are still seeing good listings being placed on the site, which is eagerly met by enquiry and a sale. If you need something for Harvest, it would be wise to act now and try to stay ahead of the curve, as things will only get tighter as we get closer.

Mike said - Machinery is still selling well, with Tractors making up the majority of the sales in the last week, although Tillage Equipment has come a close second. I even got to sell a 1930s Lanz Bulldog for a very respectable $15,000. There is also a bit of interest in second-hand Tyres and Rims.

As we get closer to Harvest, Headers will become popular, so if you're thinking of upgrading, there are a few low houred machines around. Check out this Case and this John Deere Header we have for sale.

Keep those listings coming and see what else sold here.

End of message.
