Yarding - 58,000
The sale saw only modest increases in numbers. Among the buying group, key supermarkets and domestic processors from the south were active across all categories of young lambs. Despite an outstanding yarding of 14,000 new season lambs, the overall tempo of the market produced a softer tone.
Trade competition was sporadic, leading to price variations. Young lambs within the 20 to 24kg weight range saw prices drop by $6 to $10, even with a considerable number of buyers present at the rail. Consequently, the selling range for young lambs fell within $100 to $132/head.. Meanwhile, old trade lambs weighing between 21kg to 26kg experienced patchy demand, with prices ranging from $65 to $115, resulting in an average of 403c/kg cwt. The Merino lambs met with a mix of price trends, with values spanning from $45 to $134/head
In the heavy export market, young new season lambs weighing over 30kg found solid support, selling between $150 to $154 In contrast, old lambs within the 26kg to 30kg category faced weaker competition and were sold at prices ranging from $110 to $138/head. For lambs exceeding 30kg, the price range stretched from $140 to $173, to average of 447c/kg cwt.
As for the sheep sale it was a very good yarding of heavy and trade mutton. There was little or no competition across the heaviest crossbred ewe, with one processor dominating this section. Crossbred and merino ewes sold from $24 to $40 to average 78c to 100c/kg cwt, Heavy wethers found some demand averaging 139c/kg cwt. Trade sheep averaged 58c to 104c/kg cwt.
