Yarding: 36,395

Lamb numbers increased slightly to 26,929, quality improved over the trade weights and heavy export lambs, presenting in excellent condition with more weight offered this week. The quality fall away over the trade weights with plainer secondary types throughout the yarding. Most of the usual buying group attended and operated in another market with mixed results. Light store and trade lambs sold to $5/head either side of firm, with the plainer secondary types in places selling to the same c/kg as the well finished trades weight lambs. Medium and heavy trade slipped $5/head and heavy export sold from $5 to $10 cheaper.

Lambs back to the paddock sold from $21 to $118 and lambs to feed on made from $99 to $146/head. Light trade lambs under 18kg to suit MK orders sold from $80 to $121/head. Young lambs in wool 18 to 24kg sold from $114 to $145/head, with a range of 560c to 620c/kg cwt. Shorn 18 to 24kg lambs sold from $114 to $158, lambs 24 to 26kg sold $150 to $186/head to have an average range of 580c to 630c/kg cwt. Heavy export lambs 26 to 30kg made from $161 to $203 and over 30kg sold from $204 to $227/head with a range of 580 to 650c/kg cwt. Hoggets sold well from $88 to $139 for the crossbreds and $49 to $135/head for the Merino’s gaining $15/head in places.

Mutton numbers doubled to 9,466 penned. The usual buyers were the rail, but not all were operating. Stronger competition this week had sales of up to $30/head dearer throughout the yarding. Light Merino wethers sold from $77 to $114 and heavy weights made from $95 to $120, gaining $15 to $20/head, with an average from 350c to 420c/kg Merino Ewes made from $54 to $115 selling to $15/head dearer to average 380c to 410c/kg. Heavy Crossbred mutton made from $87 to $125, sold to $30/head dearer, to average around 310c to 320c/kg.
