The early Birders - Every district or Farming community has that one Farmer who is always first at everything. I bet most of you wouldn't even have to think about who that person was. They would come straight into your mind instantly.
Crops still green. Doesn't matter. They are out there trying to get a sample. The first one cutting Hay, you betcha. Year after year, they are always out there doing the same early-bird stuff. These guys have to own their own Machinery because imagine the buggery they would give the poor Contractor.
So are these early birders leaders? Well, they could be because leaders are someone that people follow, and they certainly get a bit of district hurry-up going. Neighbours then start wondering if it's ready and if they should be out there themselves.
But then there are the casual ones who might be heard saying, "when Jono hits the Header up, we go on a two-week holiday because when we get home, that's when it will be ready to go". And for every early birder, there is always someone at the other end of the scale. I remember a Farmer in our district that used to harvest Oats in April and Auger them straight from the Header into the Combine to grow the next Crop. A 12-month Crop. Do you have an early or late birder in your district?
