Take notice when you hear a Farmer swear - I heard a saying last week, and it goes like this, "innovation can be found in the cursing" (Credit David Egerton-Warburton on his "Boots Off Log On" Podcast). So what he means by this is if you hear a Farmer swearing at something, you know they have a problem. And if that problem doesn't yet have a solution, then you better get your thinking cap on.

But don't be fooled, as anyone passing by the Sheepyards and hearing some of the colourful language would consider it innovator's heaven, when in fact it's just the Sheep or the Dogs doing the wrong thing "again".

I would relate innovation to Ag Tech, and someone wrote on the weekend about how most of the latest Ag Tech success stories in Australia have Farmers as the founders. People that have been there and experienced what it's like to run a Farm business. That's why many people from outside Ag who enter Ag with an idea or a start-up invariably fail. Not all, but most.

I have this saying that the Ag industry only lets you grow at a certain pace, and it's not quick. But don't let that stop you. If you can solve one of the many problems Farmer's have, then give it a go. But just remember that in the Sheepyards, the cursing is at the Sheep or the Dogs, and there's not much an innovator can do to help that get better.
