Lamb numbers lifted slightly after last week’s strong market. The quality ranged from plain to excellent, more lambs are presenting off feed in excellent condition. All the usual buying group attended, there was more competition from store buyers putting pressure on the processors and most outbidding on lambs to go on to feed or back to the paddock. Once the market hit the trade weights bidding was subdued as buyers didn’t have last weeks intensity. Store lambs sold $4/head either side of firm. Light trade sold to $15/head cheaper. Medium and heavy trade sold from $15 to $25/head softer. Heavy export lambs had the biggest hit with lambs topping $268 and were $25 to $35/head cheaper.

Store buyers were more active in the market paying $41 to $145 for lambs to go back to the paddock and lambs to feed on made from $135 to $164/head. Light trade lambs under 18kg to suit MK orders sold from $76 to $138/head, with a range of 580c to 720c/kg cwt. Young lambs in wool 18 to 24kg sold from $130 to $182/head, with an average of 700c to 740c/kg cwt.

Shorn lambs to the trade 18 to 24kg made from $134 to $199/head, lambs 24 to 26kg sold $190 to $218/head to have an average range of 700c to 780c/kg cwt. Heavy export lambs 26 to 30kg made from $203 to $230 and over 30kg sold from $234 to $268/head to average 740c to 760c/kg cwt. Hoggets made from $110 to $155 for the crossbreds and $60 to $126/head for the merino’s.

Mutton numbers almost doubled with 16,300 sheep yarded of mixed quality. A small field of buyers were on the rail. Light and medium weights sold firm to $5 dearer in an erratic market with sales bouncing $10 to $20/head either side of firm. Heavy sheep gained $20/head. Light Merino wethers sold from $54 to $85 and heavy weights from $78 to $117/head. Light weight Merino Ewes made from $27 to $87 and the heavier weights sold from $80 to $119/head. Heavy Crossbred mutton made from $64 to $112/head. Mutton averaged from 260c to 330c/kg cwt.
