Some Lamb categories made gains at Ballarat

Lambs number dropped to 16,870 yarded, lambs presented in excellent condition over the heavy export and heavy trade lamb categories. The quality fell away in the medium and lighter weights with a large portion secondary unfinished types. Not all the usual buyers were present but the majority were active in a market that opened softer, to gain as the sale progressed. Extra store competition had store lambs firm to $6/head dearer in places. Trade lambs gained $3 to $8 for the better quality and slipped $4 to $8 for the secondary types lacking finish. Heavy export lambs sold to $240/head, holding mostly firm on last weeks levels.

Lambs back to the paddock under 18kg selling from $15 to $123, and lambs over 18kg made from $109 to $144/head. Lambs to the trade to suit MK orders under 18kg sold from $90 to $113, Lambs 18-22kg, sold from $122 to $158, Lambs 22-24kg, sold from $149 to $180, Lambs 24-26kg made from $169 to $188/head. Export 26 to 30kg sold from $180 to $212 and 30kg and over made $213 to $240/head. Most lambs averaged between 640c to 700c, with some sale reaching 750c/kg cwt.

Sheep numbers dropped by over half, quality was plain to very good, most buyers operated, most categories were $5 to $10 softer to a week ago. Merino wethers selling from $68 to $115/head. Merino ewes sold from $15 to $110 and heavy crossbred mutton sold from $86 to $124/head
