A notable upswing in lamb and sheep numbers occurred, driven by the significant surge in prices the previous week. Vendors reaped substantial rewards as prices witnessed a rise ranging from $7 to $11 and more in places. Recent rainfall acted as a catalyst for restockers and feedlots, contributing to a considerable lift in prices by $10 to $15 for well-bred types, with a substantial proportion of the sale comprising secondary lambs. Lambs in a bare skin weighing 21kg cwt to feed on reached a top of $162.

Heavy lambs saw strong demand, attracting a big number of buyers. Prices were pushed up by $11, reaching a top of $294 and averaging 760c/kg cwt. Lambs in the 26 to 30kg category gained $5 and were sold within a range of $205 to $248, averaging 803c/kg cwt. Trade lambs showed variable trends depending on who was buying but generally maintained stability, with most averaging around 800c/kg cwt. Lambs weighing between 21 to 24kg fetched from $160 to $194/head. Store lambs, with adequate weight and frame, commanded prices ranging from $128 to $162. Merino lambs saw prices ranging from $58 to $178, while hoggets experienced strong demand, with Merino portions selling between $108 to $146. Crossbreds were traded within the range of $126 to $164.

During the sheep sale, an increased number of processors were actively participating, all competing for trade and light sheep. This heightened competition led to significant price increases, ranging from $25 to $30, with average prices ranging between 320c to 350c/kg cwt. In the heavy export classes, additional buyers entered the market, and bidding showed noticeable strength, resulting in price lifts of $30 to $33, with an average around 320c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $106 to $125 trade sheep topped at $99 per head.
