Price v Convenience - As I get older, I think I go more for convenience over price. In my 20's and 30's, when I was on the Farm, it was more about price.
However, I think Farming has changed over the last 10 to 20 years. Farms have got bigger, Farmers have got busier and more professional, and I think in this day and age when timing is so important, I think convenience wins over price.
A good example is Livestock Agents. 10 years ago, some thought that by 2022 (today), Farmers would be going direct, and the Agent would be cut out. The opposite has happened. Farmers now rely on their Agents and Agronomists more than ever. They are an important part of the success of the business.
Plus, Farmers are too busy, and Farm businesses are more complex than ever. And the Agent's and Agronomist's jobs are more specialised and out of most Farmer current skill set (with due respect). So therefore, Farmers are happy to pay good money for quality third-party service providers because they provide convenience (and value).
