The lamb market witnessed big fluctuations, characterized by reduced buying from supermarkets and certain export companies compared to previous weeks. Despite a smaller turnout of lambs and sheep, the quality of the offerings varied significantly. Notably, trade lambs exhibited inconsistencies in their finish, lacking bloom and cover. Consequently, buyers proceeded cautiously, preferencing shorn and well-bred types.

Trade lambs experienced a downward adjustment in prices, declining by $10 to $15. Those weighing between 20 to 24 kilograms commanded prices ranging from $110 to $159, averaging 630 cents/kg cwt. Heavier categories, ranging from 24 to 26 kilograms, fetched prices between $155 and $174. Merino trade lambs were transacted within the range of $90 to $148, while higher-quality hoggets garnered prices between $86 and $116.

However, heavy export lambs encountered challenges in consistently attracting buyers, leading to notable price drop. Prices for lambs weighing between 26 to 30 kilograms declined by $14, and ranged from $165 to $196. Lambs over 30 kilograms were traded between $191 and $246, averaging 657 cents/kg cwt.

During the sheep sale, not all companies participated, and only two buyers showed genuine interest in acquiring large, heavy crossbred ewes. Trade sheep saw a decrease in prices, selling for $9 to $18 less, averaging between 200c to 220c/kg cwt. Conversely, heavy sheep remained relatively stable, with prices mostly unchanged, averaging between 250c to 285c/kg cwt.
