Observing - I remember when I was a young bloke on the Farm, everything was rush, rush, and more rush. No time to evaluate. Just get stuck into it.
As you get older, you learn to observe things more closely and take the time to. We bought a small property 18 months ago and got our first load of Lambs last spring. We soon worked out that 400 was 200 too many.
We also made a point of taking some time to just sit out in the paddock with the Lambs and watch and listen. We didn't realise how noisy they were when they grazed and how they pulled the grass more rather than cut it with their teeth. We've been around sheep all our lives and never really knew that.
Smart Farmers are picking up things all the time, things they observe that can use to help run a better Farm just by taking a bit of time to observe things. In our situation, where the land and environment are foreign to us, you have to take that time to work a few things out.
