Lamb number increased to 11,663 this week, quality was again patchy over the old season lambs with a wide range of pain to very good. More buyers were present but not all were active. Lambs in short skins with good fat cover gained the most interest while the secondary types in rougher skins sold to a cheaper trend, however the market was very erratic throughout the sale. Light lambs sold firm to $2 better, medium and heavy trade lambs were firm to slightly cheaper and heavy export sold to a top of $147/head, not as much weight offered and were a few dollars either side of firm.

The limited offering of new season lambs presented in very good condition sold to restockers from $12 to $92 and processors paid from $62 to $117/head to the trade, averaging 445c to 495c/kg cwt.

Limited interest in the old lambs back to the paddock, selling from $5 to $94/head. Old season lambs 18 to 26kg sold to the trade from $72 to $129/head to average 390c to 445c/kg cwt. Heavy export lambs over 26kg made from $115 to $147/head to average 410c to 450c/kg cwt.

Sheep numbers also increased to 3,159, quality was mixed in a cheaper market to a week ago. Light mutton made from $12 to $25/head. Merino wethers made from $31 to $34/head mostly to a restocker. Merino ewes $23 to $49, and heavy crossbred mutton from $22 to $50, all weights and grades were $5 to $10/head cheaper.
