Yarding: 31,300
Lamb numbers decreased slightly to 23,115, the quality ranged from plain to very good, well presented and finished lambs with good fat cover were limited. A large portion of the yarding were plainer unfinished secondary types. Most of the usual buying group attended and operated in very erratic market with prices bouncing from high to low throughout the yarding. Buyers were chasing the short skin lambs with good finish, with this grade selling to $10/head dearer, while the lambs in wool or not quite finished selling $5 to $10/head cheaper and more in places. Overall, the market ended with light store and trade lambs sold to $5/head either side of firm, Medium and heavy trade firm to $3/head dearer and heavy export sold to a top of $243 selling to $6/head stronger.
Lambs back to the paddock sold from $21 to $119 and lambs to feed on made from $112 to $136/head. Light trade lambs under 18kg to suit MK orders sold from $52 to $122/head. Trade lambs 18 to 22kg sold from $116 to $140, heavy trade lambs 22 to 26kg sold $126 to $165/head to have a wide range of 560c to 630c/kg cwt. Heavy export lambs 26 to 30kg made from $164 to $193 and over 30kg sold from $204 to $243/head with an average of 630c/kg cwt. Hoggets bounced from 250c/kg to 550c/kg selling from $53 to $162/head for the heavy weights and Merino’s sold from $50 to $86/head.
Mutton numbers were similar with 8,509 penned. Not all the usual buyers were the rail, and not all were operating fully. Light Merino wethers sold from $45 to $71 and heavy weights made from $58 to $85, selling to $35/head cheaper. Merino Ewes made from $40 to $75, to be $20 to $35/head back. Heavy Crossbred mutton made from $50 to $70, with one pen of 7 very heavy crossbred wethers selling to $122 and the light weights from $36 to $50/head, selling to $40/head cheaper.
