Money in mud or stress in the mess? - It's official, high rainfall seasons are hard work. I was chatting to a Farmer yesterday who said that there had been no let-up from last year's record wet and that he was exhausted. And for him, the wet has continued into this season. I am sure many of you feel the same way, as Hay season led into Harvest and then Cropping on the back door of that. Throw in some Lamb Marking and Shearing, it's been full-on for everyone. Remember, if you feeling a bit off, make sure you talk to someone.
You would think that a wet year would help the Livestock guys with grass growth, but it has been the opposite, as the ground just becomes rotten. We are seeing hangovers with worms as well.
So exhaustion levels are high, which leads to stress, and this year hasn't panned out as well for many with a Livestock downturn. Some are too wet, and others too dry. I guess that's Farming.
The old money-in-mud adage may be right up to a point, but when things get wet, things get messy, and that's where the problems start. When it's too wet, it limits what we can do, and Farmers can get anxious. The work that needs to be done has to be delayed until things dry up a little. Farming is so precise these days, and Farmers know that every missed action can affect the outcome. Look after yourselves out there.
