It's scenario thinking time - We are seeing a bit of a change in the weather pattern over the last fortnight. Those Croppers that were dry have got dryer, those that were good are still pretty good, and those that were wet are getting on paddocks again.

Everyone knows the forecasters are leaning towards a dryer second half of the year. So if that's the case, Cropping Farmer's will need to be prepared to make quick decisions on what they need to do with this year's Crop. It might be one of those think-on-your-feet, explore-all-options type years.

It might be the year to observe your Crops and your markets closely, be adaptable as to the outcomes of each Crop, gather as much information as possible and keep talking to the people in the know. Already we have seen our first frosted Crop, and today we got photos of someone cutting an Oat Crop.

But if you know you have stored moisture and your Crop is tapping into it, you can stay pretty confident. It will be a great friend this year if the tap starts turning off. I hate being alarmist, and it might turn out the opposite, but if it gets dryer, those who read the play and act quickly will win. The procrastinators will not. It would be good to start doing some scenario thinking and planning.
