Lamb numbers increased slightly to 27,600, quality improved throughout the yarding with plainer types still presenting in the lighter categories, ranging from plain to excellent. Most of the usual buying group were present but not all were active in another market with mixed results. More interest in store lambs this week, selling from $5 to $12 dearer, light & medium trade gained $3 to $6/head. Heavy trade sold firm to $3/head cheaper. Lambs in short skins and good weight cover gained the most interest, while secondary types were discounted on last week’s levels. More numbers of extra heavy export lambs were offered, one pen made $228, mainly selling between $164 and $210, ending $5 to $10/head cheaper.
Lambs back to the paddock under 18kg selling from $27 to $114, and lambs over 18kg made from $113 to $138/head. Lambs to the trade to suit MK orders under 18kg sold from $49 to $109, Lambs 18-22kg, sold from $115 to $150, Lambs 22-24kg, sold from $132 to $160, Lambs 24-26kg made from $153 to $175/head. Export 26 to 30kg sold from $164 to $198 and 30kg and over made $186 to $228/head.
Sheep numbers decreased to 3,618, quality ranged from plain to very good. There was more bidding competition on the rail. Light and medium weight sheep sold $2 to $8 dearer and heavy mutton gaining $10/head. Heavy Merino wethers sold from $55 to $115/head. Merino ewes sold from $43 to $120 and heavy crossbred mutton sold from $93 to $159/head.
