Yarding: 31,700
Lamb numbers almost halved with 19,504 penned, the quality of the yarding varied, limited numbers over the heavy trade and export categories ranging from plain to excellent. All the usual buying group attended not all operated in a stronger market to a week ago. Store buyers were again active with store lambs selling to $15/head dearer and more in places. Light trade sold to $8 to $12 better, Medium trade to $11 stronger and Heavy trade to $12 dearer. Heavy export were to $8 dearer for the 26 to 30kg lambs and over 30kg sold firm.
Store lambs back to the paddock sold from $35 to $142 and lambs to feed on made from $151 to $177/head. Light trade lambs under 18kg to suit MK orders sold from $98 to $145/head. Young lambs in wool 18 to 24kg sold from $138 to $179 and lambs 24 to 30kg sold from $206 to $220/head, with an average of 720c to 780c/kg cwt. Shorn lambs were in higher demand and sold from $136 to $204 for 18 to 24kg, lambs 24 to 26kg sold $184 to $226/head to have an average range of 750c to 810c/kg cwt. Heavy export lambs 26 to 30kg made from $209 to $240 and over 30kg sold from $234 to $265/head to average 740c to 814c/kg cwt. Hoggets gained $10/head and sold from $98 to $181 for the crossbreds and $60 to $135/head for the merino’s.
Mutton numbers dropped to 12,837 after last week’s strong market. More buyers were on the rail, but not all operated. The market opened softer on crossbred mutton and remained firm on Merino’s with fat cover and a good length of skin, the market gain momentum towards the end of the sale to end $3 to $5 dearer, while the heavy crossbred mutton ended a few dollars easier. Light Merino wethers sold from $61 to $100 and heavy weights from $85 to $115/head. Light weight Merino Ewes made from $27 to $98 and the heavier weights sold from $74 to $110/head. Heavy Crossbred mutton made from $70 to $105/head. Most mutton averaged from 290c to 320c/kg cwt.
