Go Go Griffith (part 1) - I spent Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning in Griffith (NSW). I've always liked the area in and around Griffith and find the place interesting. To say it's an Agricultural mecca is an understatement. There is so much going on.
I like my morning coffee, and when I'm away somewhere, I'm always on Google Maps, seeking out the coffee shop that opens the earliest. I've pretty much worked out that you can judge a town by the times the coffee shops open. In Griffith, it was 6 am, and the place I went to was buzzing with all types as they headed off for a day's work.
There is industry everywhere, and being one of the prized Farming areas in Australia, Farmers locally can pretty much get everything they need. One of the biggest businesses in town, Collier and Miller, are retailers of anything industrial, steel, parts, etc, and here's me thinking they were Machinery and Equipment Engineering and Manufacturing business only. Never assume.
It's one of those places where the industrial areas mesh in with the residential areas. They can be next door to each other. So much so that many businesses have outgrown their premises and are looking to expand or relocate further out (Serafins, for example) or to the smaller satellite towns/areas that surround Griffith. But the town is under pressure, and I will explain why tomorrow in part 2. If you've been, what's your take on Griffith?
