Lamb numbers jumped to 32,400, quality varied with a ranged of plain to very good through the light and trade weight categories. Heavy trade and heavy export lambs presented mostly in excellent condition with the odd plainer pen throughout the market. Not all the usual buying group attended, with a couples of major processors absent. The market opened slightly softer to last week’s levels and got cheaper as the sale progressed. Light store lambs were the least effected selling $5 to $8 Softer. Medium and heavy trade sold from $10 to $20/head cheaper. Heavy export sold to a top of $245 to be $15 to $20/head back on last week’s levels.

Lambs back to the paddock sold from $39 to $128 and lambs to feed on made from $123 to $150/head. Light trade lambs under 18kg to suit MK orders sold from $74 to $122/head. Young lambs in wool 18 to 26kg sold from $121 to $146/head, with an average of 580c to 660c/kg cwt. Shorn 18 to 24kg lambs sold from $124 to $166 , lambs 24 to 26kg sold $154 to $178/head to have an average range of 620c to 650c/kg cwt. Heavy export lambs 26 to 30kg made from $173 to $203 and over 30kg sold from $210 to $245/head to average around 660/kg cwt. Hoggets sold from $61 to $92 for the crossbreds and $61 to $110/head for the Merino’s.

Mutton numbers dropped to 9,276 penned. A smaller field of buyers were on the rail at not all were operating as the market opened much softer, gaining some momentum as more buyers started bidding then becoming erratic for the rest of the sale. Light Merino wethers sold from $45 to $76 and heavy weights made from $51 to $97, slipping $20/head. Merino Ewes made from $20 to $75, selling to $10 to $20/head cheaper. Heavy Crossbred mutton made from $45 to $79, selling to $30/head cheaper and more in places.
