A larger offering of 10,317 lambs at Ballarat which was an increase of approximately 775 head. There was an overall slight drop in the quality and average weight as the lambs varied from good heavy and medium trade weights displaying cover down to secondary unfinished trade weights and plainer lighter types towards the end of each agents run. Prices were also very mixed throughout the market with the regular buyers attending and not all operating fully. The extra heavy weight lambs sold approximately $8/head softer. The good quality 27 to 30kg cwt lambs were from unchanged to $2 easier, heavy trade weight pens sold $3 to $5 weaker with the medium trade weight lambs selling mostly from $5 to $10 /head cheaper compared to last week. Light lamb prices improved mostly $5 with a few sales $10/head dearer as they sold to more competition. Lambs purchased by restockers and feeders made mostly $36 to $98 with lighter pens selling from $15 to $27/head. Merino lambs of light trade weights made $52 to $72, hoggets sold to $70 and ram lambs made to $88/head.
Light weight lambs to the processors sold from $39 to $76, light trade weight lambs made from $52 to $98/head making between an estimated 380c to 450c/kg cwt. The medium trade weight lambs sold from $94 to $122/head as they they averaged between 470c and 490c/kg cwt. The heavier pens of lambs from 25 to 26kg cwt mainly sold from $105 to $127/head. Lambs from 27 to 30kg cwt made between $114 to $140 and the extra heavy export lambs sold from $132 to the market top of $150/head ranging between estimated average of 415c to 440c/kg cwt.
Approximately 2,700 sheep sold to a cheaper trend of generally $10 to $20/head with an overall lack of demand coming from the buying gallery. Light mutton made from $12 to $18 and the medium weight offering sold from $26 to $47/head. Best of the Merino wethers were from $43 to $70, Merino ewes with cover sold from $38 to $60 and the heavy crossbred ewes made $50 to 60/head. An isolated pen of crossbred wethers reached $100/head. The best rams sales were from $10 to $25 and it’s worth noting there were ram sales well under $10/head. Most sales in the weaker market were from 100c to 190c/kg cwt.
