Lamb numbers slipped slightly to 29,500. Quality improved over the light and medium trade weights. Heavy export lambs present in excellent condition, while the light store lambs ranged from plain to very good. All the usual buying group were on the rail and most were active in a stronger market across all weights and grades. Light store lambs sold $8 to $12/head better. Light and medium trade sold $8 to $15 dearer, heavy trade were $10 to $15/head stronger. Heavy export lambs sold to a top of $252/head to be $14 dearer to a week ago.

Lambs back to the paddock sold from $20 to $125 and lambs to feed on made from $118 to $141/head. Light trade lambs under 18kg to suit MK orders sold from $66 to $123/head. Trade lambs 18 to 22kg sold from $118 to $146, lambs 22 to 26kg sold $135 to $173/head to have a wide average range of 610c to 660c/kg cwt. Heavy export lambs 26 to 30kg made from $173 to $205 and over 30kg sold from $195 to $252/head with an average of 630c to 645c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino lambs sold from $103 to $148/head with a good length in skins. Hoggets sold from $57 to $130/head for the crossbreds and Merino’s sold from $39 to $97/head.

Mutton numbers also dropped slightly to 8,377 penned. The market opened firm on last week’s levels and gain momentum as the sale progressed. Merino wethers sold from $55 to $120, selling $8 to $18/head dearer. Merino Ewes made from $28 to $100, gaining $5 to $12/head and the heavy Crossbred mutton made from $68 to $100, selling from $7 to $12/head stronger, with the majority of the mutton averaging from 290c to 310c/kg cwt.
