Lamb quality again varied with heavy export and trade presenting in excellent condition and medium trade and lighter weights presented plain to very good. Over half the yarding were secondary types lacking quality, shape and finish. Not all the usual buying group were active, one northern exporter didn’t operate and other domestic buyers only filled small orders. The market opened softer and gain some momentum on the better quality well finished types, but became very erratic throughout the sale. Store lambs sold $10 to $20 cheaper, light trade sold $10 to $17 back, medium and heavy trade sold to $10 softer. Heavy export sold to a top of $248/head to be $10 to $15 cheaper. Lambs back to the paddock under 18kg selling from $22 to $121, and lambs over 18kg made from $126 to $148/head.

Lambs to the trade to suit MK orders under 18kg sold from $72 to $92, Lambs 18-22kg, sold from $112 to $160, Lambs 22-24kg, sold from $139 to $179, Lambs 24-26kg made from $158 to $188/head. Export 26 to 30kg sold from $175 to $220 and 30kg and over made $208 to $248/head. Most lambs averaged between 640c to 700c/kg cwt.

The mutton market opened much softer, with only a few buyers on the rail bidding, and quite often moving on with out bidding at all. Heavy sheep sold to $35 cheaper, medium and light sheep to $15 softer. Merino wethers selling from $60 to $138/head. Merino ewes sold from $23 to $128 and heavy crossbred mutton sold from $113 to $136/head.
