A week away in WA - We had this week in WA (all work, of course) and a site at the Dowerin Field Days. We had a site about 6 years ago, and it looks to me that it's grown in size as far as exhibitors are concerned. I would argue it's the size of Henty with less than half the Henty (60,000) crowd. It only runs for 2 days vs Henty's 3 days.
The first day was the biggest, and I have worked out why the Farmer go on day 1. From about 3 pm onwards, most companies provided grog and nibbles, and some of the tents were spilling over with people. It's the most social Field Day I have been to.
The season up North is all but finished, and they will get little Crop. Around Dowerin, it looks like knife-edge stuff, and when we travelled there on the Tuesday, I thought one hot day would cook the Crops. The Thursday was a ripe old 31 Degrees, and when I came back to Perth today, I was surprised at how they stood up. Clearly, there is some moisture underneath them. Farmers further South are still in the game but will require a few rains yet. Some Farmers were reporting small areas of frosting already, mainly out East.
I had a quick dash around the big Machinery, and like every Field Day every year, it just keeps getting bigger. WA is no exception, as it's the same brands we have over East but with a smattering of local brands that compete. If you have been to one of the larger Field Days, then you have been to them all, but it's more about getting some new ideas, seeing some different country and talking to some new people. Well worth the trip.
