Softer trend for Mutton at Ballarat

Yarding - 50,597 (+6120).
Lambs - 36,413 (+5522).
Sheep - 14,184 (+598)

Lamb supply increased to 36,400, the quality was good to excellent with a large portion of the yarding now presenting off feed, all the usual buying group were in attendance with extra store buyers present. Lambs back to the paddock selling firm to $5 dearer, at times the market was very erratic with the trade weight lambs firm to $10/head softer in places, heavy and extra heavy lambs held mostly firm. Sheep supply increased slightly to 14,200, the quality was plain to very good with all weights a grade’s offered across the yarding. Not all processes were operating causing a softer trend in the market to be $10 to $20/head cheaper and more in places. Merino mutton sold to a top of $209/head.

Orders for feeders and restockers were strong on the light weight lambs back to the paddock, under 20kg sold from $67 to $177, 20kg and over made from $168 to $197/head. Lambs suiting MK orders under 18kg sold from $125 to $159/head. Shorn lambs to the trade 18 to 22kg sold from $151 to $194, 22 to 24kg, made from $187 to $207/head to range from 782c to 882c to average 830c to 840c/kg cwt. Lambs 24 to26kg sold from $204 to $229/head, to average 830c/kg cwt. Export 4 score 26 to 30kg lambs, sold from $226 to $244 to average 830c and over 30kg sold from $246 to $278/head to average 785c/kg cwt. Woolly sucker lambs 18 to 22kg made from $154 to $184, 22 to 26kg sold from $185 to $200 and 26 to 30kg selling from $228 to $237/head, with an average range of 810c to 820c/kg cwt. Hoggets sold to $200 for crossbreds and Merino’s sold to $189/head.

Heavy Merino wethers over 24kg sold from $154 to $215, with lighter weights making from $88 to $160/head, with a range of 590c to600c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $150 to $201/head, to average 580c to 600c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred ewes made from $153 to$215/head, to average from 550c to 560c/kg cwt.
