Optus to build 500 new mobile towers

A massive $1 billion investment in new and better mobile coverage for regional Australia has been announced. Optus will add 500 new towers of which 114 will be under the mobile blackspots program. They will also upgrade another 2000 towers from 3G to 4G.

Optus will also continue to invest in satellite small cell technology in Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Optus Chief Allen Lew said, “that is critical to supporting public safety and emergency services during natural disasters.”

“Optus is building out its mobile network in the places where people live, work and travel to ensure they can lead a vibrant online life. Importantly, we are densifying the mobile network to provide better download speeds for data-hungry applications such as video streaming", he said.

This is great news for people in the bush and getting 500 new towers is massive.
