Only 2634 Sheep and Lambs yarded in Bendigo this week

Smallest yarding for at least 20 years at Bendigo this week, some agents claiming it would rate as the smallest prime sale ever recorded. Just 2,210 lambs and 424 sheep. Difficult market to read due to the limited numbers, which included many small and very mixed lots, and not all buyers being present. Any good processor lambs were dearer, the heavier types lifting by $10 to $20 and the neatest domestic types by up to $25/head. Plainer and light weight lambs were also significantly dearer than the discounted rates of the past fortnight.
The few export lambs over 30kg cwt made from $209 to a top of $220/head. The biggest improvement of the market was for any neat heavy and medium trade lambs which sold from $190 to $215/head, with estimated carcase rates bouncing back up to between 800c to 850c/kg cwt. Most light and plainer lambs sold from $150 to $180/head.
Token yarding of sheep. Big crossbred ewes sold to $200/head, but this was for a pen estimated at over 50kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold to$186/head. Any good trade and light mutton did show dearer results, but the lack of numbers made accurate price trends difficult.
