Numbers down but Sheep and Lambs mostly firm at Ballarat

Yarding - 26,500 (-13,942).
Lambs - 17,600 (-11,185).
Sheep - 8900 (-2757).

Agents yarded 17,600 Lambs, over 10,000 down from last week. The quality was mostly excellent with most weights on offer across the yarding. Not all the usual buying group were in attendance due to the current clement, with not many store buyers present.

Agents reporting the market was mostly firm, very light lambs suitable for bag lamb orders were strong paying between $100 to $150 with very few sales under $100/head. Light trade lambs were firm for the better-finished lambs and to $8/head softer in places for the plainer types with feeder orders strong paying from $160 to $180/head. Medium and heavy trade lambs were firm to $5 softer in places and Heavyexport lambs selling firm to $5 dearer on last weeks levels to a top of $295/head with an estimated weight of 36kg cwt.

Sheep numbers also declined this week with a yarding of 8,700. Agents reported the market was very strong to see light sheep firm, medium sheep firm to $5 dearer and heavy sheep sold $5 to $10/head dearer. Well covered Merino wethers sold well to be $5 to $10/head dearer and more in places.
