Lambs $5-$15 dearer at Ballarat

Lambs - 26,695 (-3343).
Sheep - 19,389 (+11,991).

Lamb numbers decreased to 28,500 yarded, the quality was plain to good with all weights on offer. All the usual buying group attended but not all operated fully due to strong competition across all weight categories to see the market up by $5 to $15/head across the yarding. Feeders were very active again this week buying light lambs shorn and unshorn from $74 to $204/head. Shorn lambs presented better this week to reach $236/head to top of the market.

Light weight unshorn 2 score lambs 12kg to 18kg sold from $86 to $148/head to average 758c/kg cwt. The 2 and 3 score trade lambs 18kg to22kg sold from $135 to $153/head to average around 745c/kg cwt. The 3 score lambs 22kg to 24kg sold from $165 to $187/head, ranging from 707c to 765c to average around 745c/kg cwt. The 4 score lambs 24kg to 26kg sold from $182 to $200/head to average around 753c/kg cwt. Heavy 26kg to 30kg lambs sold from $204 to $232/head. Shorn lambs 18kg to 22kg sold from $140 to $168, lambs 22kg to 24kg sold from $170 to $197, lambs 24kg to 26kg sold from $180 to $202, lambs 26kg to 30kg sold from $200 to $215 and lambs 30kg sold to$236/head with a range of 708c to 821c to average 745c/kg cwt. Hoggets sold from $98 to $185 for crossbreds and from $75 to $128/headfor Merinos.

Sheep numbers jumped considerably to 19,389 yarded up nearly 12,000 from last weeks yarding, the quality was average to good with plenty of weight on offer across the yarding. All the usual buying group attended but not all operated fully; the market was mixed starting softer, through the middle was dearer and finished softer to be around 5c to 10c/kg back on last weeks levels. Light weight 1 and 2 score sheep sold from $66 to $129/head to average 570c/kg cwt. Medium weight sheep sold from $94 to $158/head ranging from 495c to 668c, with Merino mutton averaging around 590c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $148 to $180 and heavy crossbred ewes sold from $136 to $213/head.Heavy Merino wethers sold from $140 to $220 and medium weights sold from $107 to $155/head to average 605c/kg cwt. Heavy crossbred wethers sold from $140 to $226/head. Rams sold from $25 to $200/head.
