Craft Brewing craze behind Barrett Burston acquisition

Barrett Burston Malting Co. Pty. Ltd. (BBM), a GrainCorp company, today announced it has acquired Cryer Malt. Cryer Malt is the largest distributor of craft brewing ingredients in Australia and New Zealand.

David Cryer, Managing Director of Cryer Malt said: “We have worked for over 25 years to bring the best malt to our customers across the region. We know how important quality and consistency is to our customers and our uncompromising commitment to both won’t change.

“Cryer Malt will continue to supply our fantastic customers and the brewing trade with the finest ingredients. We want to ensure they continue to have the freedom and confidence to innovate and create consistently great beer,” David said.

Noel Johnson, General Manager of BBM said: “Today’s announcement marks the next stage of our partnership with David and his team. Cryer Malt have built up a strong customer-focussed culture that is about supporting brewers and that is why we wanted to strengthen our partnership with them,” Noel said.

From an operational point of view, it will be business as usual. There will be no changes to the Cryer Malt team, with all employees remaining with the business.

BBM is part of GrainCorp Limited with a range of craft-focussed malting companies including Brewcraft USA and Country Malt Group (CMG) in the United States and Brewers Select in the United Kingdom.
