Buyers active on Feeder and Restocker Lambs at Bendigo

Lambs - 17,600 (+2600).

Sheep - 9900 (+3900).

Lamb supply lifted this week at Bendigo, with 17,600 yarded, up 2,600 on last week. Quality ranged from average to good, but with not as many fresh young lambs penned. The usual buying group attended and operated in a generally firm to slightly easier market on the trade weight and heavier lambs. The general run of medium and heavy trade weight lambs sold from $170 to $200/head to average from 735c to 740c/kg cwt. Restockers and feeders were active and paid predominately from $106 to $164/head for lambs, with lighter smaller young lambs selling from $68 to $110/head. Lighter weight Merino lambs sold from $91 to $144, with the heavier weight selling from $156 to $180/head.Heavy shorn lambs sold to $202/head.

Lightweight 2 score lambs 12-18 kg sold from $106 to $138/head. Light trade weight lambs, 18-22kg, sold from $138 to $164/head and averaged around 745c/kg cwt. Medium trade weight 3-4 score lambs, 22-24kg, sold from $170 to $185/head, and made from 720c to 755c to average around 735 to 740c/kg cwt. Heavy 3-4 score trade weight lambs, 24-26kg sold from $185 to $200/head and averaged around735c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs 3-4 score, 26-30kg sold from $198 to $222/head. The extra heavy young lambs sold from $220 to $232/head.Heavy crossbred hoggets sold from $122 to $175 with the Merino hoggets selling from $135 to $159/head.

The sheep penning of 9,700 was up nearly 4,000 on last week, and the quality over the offering was outstanding for weight and presentation, with a large pen of 176 Merino wethers, estimated around 50kg cwt selling for $258/head. Most of the regular buying group attended and operated, but there were limited numbers of lighter sheep suiting local processors. Most sheep sold to keen competition, making up to 650c/kg at times to average close to 600c/kg cwt. The plainer crossbred ewes eased a few dollars at times. Lightweight 2 score sheep sold from $89 to $107/head to average around 575c/kg cwt. Medium weight 2 to 3 score sheep sold from $105 to $154/head and made from 530c to 650c, with the Merino mutton averaging around 595c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $145 to $214, heavy Merino wethers sold from$137 to $258, with the medium weights selling from $121 to $155/head, the heavy Merino sheep averaged around 590c to 595c/kg cwt. Heavy 3 to 5 score crossbred sheep sold from $142 to $202/head and averaged around 550c/kg cwt. Rams sold from $70 to $180/head
