What price convenience? - My wife Paula bought some Peanuts the other day, and I like a handful or two of peanuts occasionally. But these were different. We had to shell them and eat them individually. My god, so much work. Very different to grabbing a handful and stuffing them in your mouth.
Like eating Lobster or Yabbie claws, they say it's the sweetest meat, but boy, it's such a big effort for such a little result. Give me the tail any day.
It got me thinking about how much value we put on convenience. I mean, having the Peanuts shelled for you is convenient. We expect the lights to come on when we flick the switch. How much more convenient are well-designed modern Sheep Yards where Sheep actually flow? Getting fuel delivered to your Farm is so much better than having to go to the local Servo each time. There are thousands of scenarios.
Like in my late teenage days when I started on the Farm, interest rates were 22 percent, and money was tight. Back then, we had one battery for 5 bits of Machinery, having to shift the battery from one Implement to another when you wanted to use it. How convenient is it now that we jump in the Ute or the Tractor, and it starts first go? It's hard to measure what price you put on this sort of stuff, but you have to agree convenience has value and lots of it.
