What's Hot in Farming

By Dwain Duxson

See the latest Hay Report here, hot off the keyboard last night. This week's report has an interesting headline. Take a look.

It's been Tractor week for us. We have sold 10 Tractors in the last 7 days, all of them at $65k and above. I have said it before, selling Tractors is our bread and butter, they are by far our best selling sub-category. So if you have a Tractor to sell, then get it listed. They are hot items right now.

We have just past Anzac Day, the traditional start of the sowing/seeding season for Winter Cropping. There has been a long build-up to this year's program. Not getting new Machinery as quickly has put a focus on the second-hand market. And from our end, it's been pretty constant. Lots of focus on Air Seeders, Combines and Drills. But, surprisingly, the big sellers, on a number of units basis, has been Tillage Equipment. Power Harrows, Harrows, Prickle and Disc Chains have been popular, but the big sellers have been Offset Disc, Deep Rippers, Scarifiers and Cultivators. Anything that really digs up the soil.

The trends for the last week included Tractors (as mentioned above), last-minute Seed of all different types and varieties, Bulls, Pick-up Fronts, SP Sprayers, Vetch Hay, Farm Trucks and GPS Equipment.

Interesting that Urea dropped $50 a tonne this week, but DAP went up $20 a tonne to be $70 above the MAP price. Read more in Ellen's PAC report below, or better still, get her weekly Fertiliser text where you get all the up to date pricing and news. To subscribe, text "Fert update please" to 0418 137 224.

On the Grain front, Lupins sold for $505 a tonne, Feed Oats at $220 a tonne, BAR1 sold for $285, $290 and $295 a tonne.

There was plenty of Pasture and Grain Seed sold this last week.

All prices are Ex Farm.

This is what the sales guys said happened this week:

Shane said - The rain has stirred things up, with some last-minute purchases for Cropping and the long-term view from Farmers who are already on the hunt for Headers and Fronts.

Hay gear is another item that has had a lift, with this year looking more likely than the previous for a good replenishment of stocks after the disappointing last couple of seasons.

Paul said - With the vast majority hooking into their cropping programs, the phone has really lifted with enquiry as things get all the more serious. Anything to do with Cropping has lifted in interest and looking even further down the track.

We are still receiving interest in Headers and Fronts. Realising there is a lot of water to go under the bridge before they are needed. However, it doesn't hurt to have one eye on the future as things are only going to continue to get tighter and more sought after in the Machinery game with the current circumstances around the world.

Mike said - It's been a mixed bag with sales this week. There seems to be a lot of interest in self-propelled low houred Spray Rigs, especially in Northern New South Wales and Southern Queensland. Good quality low houred Tractors are selling extremely well. I sold 2 John Deere's and a Case this week.

It is very wet across Southern and Central Western Queensland. In some areas, Planting is delayed, and the Cotton Harvest is about to start where it is forecast to be an absolute bumper yield.

Keep those listings coming and see what else sold here.

End of message.
