This fortnight we go through the Opportunities in Hay for both buyers and sellers. See the Hay Report here, hot off the keyboard this morning.

We thought last week would die off a bit, but it surprised us with a much stronger-than-average week.

I picked up a Tractor on Saturday morning (see Tuesday's Daily Newsletter) and travelled about 160km through the North Central of Victoria. What I saw was lots of excellent Crops with some damage but only slight. I saw mobs of Sheep that looked "wintery" and Lambs that also needed some sunshine for them to advance.

Faba Beans are good buying at the moment, with a lot of Farmers taking advantage of this.

The overall trends for the week just gone include Chaser Bins, Headers, Tractors, Trailing Windrowers, Vetch Hay, Lucerne Hay, Faba Beans, Self Propelled Windrowers, Header Fronts, Tyres, GPS Equipment, Sheep Handlers, Flock Rams and Summer Crop Seed.

As far as Grain sales were concerned, we sold some Faba Beans for $360 and $400 a tonne, Lentils for $880 a tonne and Sorghum Seed for $4kg. All prices are Ex Farm.

This is what the sales guys said happened this week:

Shane said - Apart from the Hay job, it's still Harvest Equipment that is moving. Farmers are looking forward to hopefully jumping in the paddock over the next couple of weeks or longer when things dry out with some Crop potential still there to pull off some good numbers. A big shout out to those who are tirelessly helping their communities/fellow Farmers out as the water rises and drops. I have spoken to many volunteers and Farmers who are putting in countless hours doing their bit, so well done to you all.

Paul said - This last week has seen a lift in Hay sales and other Fodder requirements. With what is happening with the rain and flood situation around the traps, buyers are starting to realise that there might not be as many options come next year. Harvest Machinery is still selling strong. Along with Animal Handling gear. Happy punting.

Mike said - Livestock Handling gear is still very popular sold several Sheep Handlers and a couple of sets of Portable Sheep Yards last week. With all the rain around, some Tillage Equipment is being considered for down the track. There is still a fair bit of interest in Harvest Gear.

There has been a pick-up in sales in Faba Beans as buyers are looking at their feed needs moving forward.
