What's Hot in Farming

By Dwain Duxson

We are hearing some pretty bad reports in terms of flooding to Crops and, of course, people's homes and businesses. Hopefully, most of the Livestock is on high ground. For those involved, we wish you all the best and hope things can turn around quickly post-flood.

For those of you in Victoria, the good news is we didn't get much rain in the catchments of the Loddon, Coliban and Campaspe Rivers over the weekend. We live close by and only had 25mm. The Loddon River runs right past our place, and it's pretty tame right now.

Check out the last week's Hay Report here.

Speaking of Hay, there has been plenty of demand for what's left over from the old seasons. We think those set up to make silage will go hard at it when weather conditions permit.

It was a different week last week for sales, with the demand for Hay keeping sales volumes up. As you can imagine, Machinery and Equipment sales were down a little as many had other things to focus on.

The trends for the week just gone include Vetch Hay, Cereal Hay, Faba Beans, Self Propelled Windrowers, Header Fronts, Tractors, GPS Equipment, Feed Mixers, Sheep Handlers, and Lucerne Hay.

As far as Grain sales were concerned, we sold some Faba Beans for $330, $350, $360 and $380 a tonne and Yallara Oats for $235 and $270 a tonne, Feed Oats for $200 a tonne and Black Sunflower Seed for $1.50kg. All prices are Ex Farm.

This is what the sales guys said happened this week:

Shane said - A very busy week considering the rain with Windrowers and Tractors selling well. Also, seeing a run on GPS and Livestock Equipment. We sold a couple of Grain Bag Inloaders as Growers try to work out where they store their Grain as there may be a few types of specs with damaged Grain.

Hearing that Lentils are really struggling with wet feet, which may put some pressure on the current pricing. All the best to our members that are struggling with the big wet, and hopefully, the end is near.

Paul said - There is plenty happening at the minute, with most of the usual hot items staying that way. These include Chaser Bins, Header Fronts, Windrowers and Tippers. We are also seeing those well-prepared snapping up what Protein Hay is around, as there won't be much, if any, hitting the Bale over the next few weeks. All the best to those affected by the Floods.

Mike said - There is a bit of interest in Harvest gear in the south to try and get the Crops off pretty quick. Trucks are getting looked at as there is not many good quality ones available. Currently, in Longreach at the moment, the season around here is looking fantastic, Cattle are fat, and it looks like it's only going to get better the further south with travel.

Keep those listings coming and see what else sold here.
