Very strong Lamb market at Ballarat

Yarding - 44,000 (+1662)
Lambs - 35,000 (-324)
Sheep - 9000 (+1986)

Agents drew for 35,000 lambs and 9000 Sheep, the quality was plain to excellent, all the usual buyers were present in a very strong market across most categories. Store buyers were very active in the market today with lambs back to the paddock $5 to $12/head dearer which caused light and medium trade lamb prices to increase $3 to $8 and heavy trade were $2 to $5/head dearer. Heavy and extra heavy lambs started stronger to ease as the sale progressed to be firm to $3/head softer, with one pen of extra-heavy lambs with an estimated carcass weight of 45kg to top $300/head. Store lambs were in demand this week with lambs back to the paddock making from $120 to $179 for under 18kg and $164 to $185/head for over 18kg cwt averaging 820c to 975c/kg cwt, with many sales over 1000c/kg cwt. Lambs to suit MKorders sold from $115 to $177/head.

Lambs to the trade 18 to 22kg sold from $164 to $192, 22 to 24kg, made from $184 to $209/head to range from 775c to 900c to average 800c to 880c/kg cwt. Lambs 24 to 26kg selling from $193 to $212/head, to average 795c to 805c/kg cwt. Export 4 score 26 to 30kg lambs, sold from $208 to $232 to average 765c and over 30kg sold from $238 to $300/head to average an estimated 740c/kg cwt. Merino lambs sold to a top of $246/head.
