Up to $20 dearer for Sheep at Ballarat

Agents penned 32,800 Lambs, the quality was mostly excellent, with all weights and grades offered across the yarding. All the usual buying group attended and operated in another strong market. Competition for light lambs back to the paddock remained very strong holding firm, light and medium trade lambs sold mostly firm. Heavy trade sold slightly softer and extra heavy export lambs sold firm on last week’s levels to top $318/head.

Light weight lambs back to the paddock, sold from $105 to $188. Lambs suiting MK orders under 18kg sold from $154 to $163/head. Lambs to the trade 18 to 22kg sold from $165 to $195, 22 to 24kg made from $188 to $212/head to range from 792c to 886c to average 845c to860c/kg cwt. Lambs 24 to 26kg selling from $194 to $225/head, to average 820c to 830c/kg cwt. Export 4 score 26 to 30kg lambs, sold from$214 to $258 to average 840c and over 30kg sold from $260 to $318/head to average an estimated 800c to 810c/kg cwt. Hoggets sold to$230 for crossbreds and Merino’s sold to $183/head.

Sheep supply increased to 13,000 yarded, the quality was mostly excellent. The yarding consisted of well-presented heavy Merino mutton with skins estimated at $30 in places and cross bred sheep caring plenty of weight. The market started very strong with most processes active, one exporter came in and out of the market which caused price fluctuations of up to $30/head in places. Overall the market was mostly firm to $20/head dearer in some grades with a average range from 630c to 762c, with some sales reaching over 800c/kg cwt. Heavy Merino ewes sold to a top of $268 and Merino wethers made to $252/head. Heavy crossbred mutton sold to a top of $296/head.

Heavy Merino wethers over 24kg sold from $172 to $252, with a range of 710c to 740c/kg cwt, with lighter weights making from $93 to $202/head. Heavy Merino ewes sold from $168 to $268 and heavy crossbred ewes made from $164 to $294/head, with a range of 670c to 790c/kg cwt.
