Try it next time. It works - I recently had a text message conversation with a Merino Ram Breeder I knew from many moons ago. We wanted to use a photo he took for our website, so I reached out to him for permission. We got chatting, and towards the end of the text, I congratulated him on what an awesome business he had built in a very, very tough industry. His last comment was, "thanks Dwain, you have put a real spring in my step".

In this instant, he got a kick out of my encouragement, and I was glad that he got a boost from it. On the feel-good scale, that's a win/win. And what's wrong with making people feel good? I think there needs to be more of it, and we can actually build it into our every day if we focus a bit. In this day and age, where headlines are negative by design and social media trolls have no let-up, it's nice to be involved in something that's positive.

I have actually thought about this and now make a conscious effort to compliment people on their good work. Like the young lady that made me a ripping coffee yesterday. "Hey, thanks very much for the coffee. You did a great job. Keep up the good work and have a ripper day," I said, looking her in the eye. She said, "aw, thanks, I really appreciate it".

So next time you walk into your local Rural Store, and the sales rep has gone to the nth degree to help you get what you want, say something like, "hey Jono, I really do appreciate what you do for us and our Farm business, you go out of your way to help, and I can't thank you enough. Keep up the good work". Try it next time. It works...
