Then the Grouper came along…. - The more mature generation amongst us will all remember Sowing/Seeding using bags. There were bags for both Grain and Fertilisers, and you roughly split them half and half on the tray of the Truck.

The Barn was the place to store all the bags, and you would bring the Grain or Fert in in bulk and then auger it into the Bag out Hopper, bag it off and store it undercover until it was time to Sow.

Someone mentioned the other day that Combine never came with a platform when it was first invented, so you used to have the lug the Bags over your shoulder. Once the platform was added to the Combine, it was just a case of using the Bag trolley to get them across from the Truck to the Seed or Super box.

And then the Grouper came along and the game changed. I remember we bought a Jetstream 5-in-1 Grouper; they were pretty revolutionary at the time. All of a sudden, the bags seemed like a distant memory. Do you have some great memories from the old bag days? Also, does anyone have a photo of the Super and Grain Bags on the back of the Tray Truck? If so can you please send it in? Reply to dwaind@farmtender.com.au
