The Rural Bank 2018 Cattle Review

This year’s Cattle Annual Review has just been released. Dry seasonal conditions, particularly across New South Wales and southern Queensland, have prompted many of Australia’s beef producers to reduce herd sizes and increase slaughter rates.

Despite producers entering 2018 with the intention to retain stock and rebuild herds, below-average rainfall, the deterioration of pastures and rising feed costs have caused slaughter levels to rise 9.5 per cent year-on-year.
