The Iron Bar story

By Dwain Duxson

The Iron Bar story -- I am writing this one in advance as we had our FarmTender2023 - The business of Farming event today. I will give you a wrap-up next week sometime.

An Iron Bar is worth $100. If you made Horseshoes from it, it would be worth $250. If you made needles from it, it would be worth $70,000. If you make watch springs from it, it would be worth $6 million.

In Ag, we mostly sell Iron Bars. How do we get to sell Horseshoes, needles or watch springs? It's a great question to ask ourselves.

Farming is a complex business, and all our effort, and some, is channelled into Growing a Commodity. We do it well. But a bit of Horseshoe or needle money would be good. I haven't got the answers here, but the story is very relatable to Ag and where we sit. Food for thought stuff.
