The forgotten one - What's the Farm communication tool that doesn't cost anything to talk on, is ever reliable, doesn't require a call centre if something goes wrong, and would have saved countless hours on the Farm? You guessed it, it's the humble UHF. One of our Farmer members sent in a reply about how valuable it has been for their operation.

But what an unheralded tool in this communication age, it has almost been forgotten. How many times have you been bogged up the back paddock and called out an SOS to come and pull you out? I'd love to add up the hours it's saved people from walking, driving or riding to another person to ask or tell them something. How good is it for the in-paddock communications at Harvest time?

The only thing against it is that it's a bit of a party line, and I have even known Farmers to change channels and listen to their neighbour's conversations.

I would be interested in the stats of how many Farmers still use the UHF or whether those with reliable phone service have ditched it in favour of phones and message platforms like WhatsApp. Are you still using the UHF, or have you ditched it for something else on your Farm?
