Speaker - Vic Dohle

Vic will be part of an interview panel between 11:30 and 12:30. Vic’s topic will be Hay.

About Vic:

Vic helps run Green & Gold Hay Contracting. They are one of the largest Hay Contractors around and supply Hay into a wide range of markets.

What are we looking to get out of Vic?

It's been a tough couple of years for the domestic Hay market. Has it been the toughest period you guys have seen? How many Bales would you guys pump out in a normal season?

Where do you see pricing now, and what can we expect to see come the new season?

Vetch is now a mainstream variety of Protein Hay which has arguably trumped Lucerne for Market Share. Why do you think Vetch Hay usage has taken off?

I'd argue that there is no real governing body for Hay, unlike GTA for Grain. Do you think we need a governing body, or do we have the bones of one (AFIA) that can step up to the plate?

ABARES do predictions for the national Grain Crop. Why don't we have something similar for Hay? Is it necessary?

The 2022 season was full of uncertainty, what is the outcome looking back? Do we have enough domestic Hay? What sort of volumes are around now? What is the quality like?

I see there has been a bit of consolidation amongst Export Hay companies. Where is that market at right now, and could export be a real growth market for Farmers?

There's a bit of a breakaway group that is making Hay in a shorter window (less curing time). Can you explain what that is all about and where it's at?
