Speaker - Jeff McDonald

Jeff will be part of a panel session and will be on between 10:15 and 11:00.

About Jeff:

Jeff was born and bred on an irrigation property at Loxton in the Riverland region of South Australia. Instead of becoming the third-generation male on the property, he took on a career in finance instead. After 20 years with a major bank, Jeff established a finance brokerage business in 2002 – Riverland Lending Services (RLS).

What can we expect from the interview with Jeff?

All the talk is about interest rates. Do you have predictions of where things might go looking out to, say 3 years time?

What are you advising your customers to do in this current environment?

Has the number of rate increases surprised you?

What rate should Farmer be paying for their overdraft and other forms of debt right now? If some Farmers out there are above this, what can they do to get their rates down?

If I had minimal debt and good borrowing capacity when should I be stepping into the market for more Land?

Tell us about some of the collaborative Farming models you have helped set up?

Do you think that collaborative Farming models would suit young people trying to get into Farming and Land ownership? How would you go about it?

If, say, you are setting up a “Farming with mates” collaborative Farming outfit, what are some of the things you might consider? Would you put the exit strategy first?

When it comes to funding Land/Farms, do we always have to follow convention? What are some of the best “outside the box” strategies you have seen?
