Yarding - 11,200
Cheaper market again with further significant price falls wiped off lamb and sheep. There was little change to supply with 6,000 lambs and 5,200 sheep yarded to be similar to a week ago. Demand was the issue with not all buyers present or active amid reports most processors have plenty of stock around them awaiting processing. Lambs were mostly $10 to $20 per head easier again, while sheep varied from $5 easier for the best heavy Merinos and crossbreds to $30 less on secondary light mutton.
Extra heavy export lambs sold to $248 and there was only six sales above $220/head in this sale despite some handy fed lambs well over 30kg cwt being available. Most heavy crossbred lambs 26-30kg sold from $180 to $212 with the main run of fat score 3 types averaging $203/head. The heavy trade lambs, 24-26kg cwt varied from $167 to a top of $202/head for the best shaped crossbreds that were in short-skins. The general run of domestic weighted lambs $130 to $175/head. Light lambs under 20kg cwt from $70 to $130/head. On a carcass basis the bulk of the crossbred lambs were averaging from 640c to 690c/kg cwt, with just a handful of sales of ideal supermarket style lambs over 700c/kg. But any secondary lambs in rough skins or lightweight types lacking fat cover were discounted down to between 450c to 600c/kg cwt, with this price range including Merinos that were mostly plainer types.
The sheep yarding included a good selection of heavy Merino wethers off shears. Mutton prices were cheaper, the heaviest sheep $5 to $15 easier but lightweight and secondary ewes falling by up to $30/head. Heaviest crossbred ewes $168 to $198/head and big Merino ewes $154 to $194/head. Heavy Merino wethers $165 to $190/head. Mutton showed a wide price spread of 450c to 570c/kg cwt.
