Yarding - 11,300

Lamb numbers dropped to 8300 head to be significantly lower than the 13,000 plus yarded the week prior. Quality remained mixed, with well finished fat score 3 and 4 trade and export lambs in limited supply against the plainer types off grass and showing the affects of the cold conditions. The general run of lambs sold at similar levels, while the best slaughter types in shorter-skins gained $5 to $10 in a market that did strengthen as it progressed. With prices performing around quality, it meant carcass estimates for lambs in a weight category could show a wide discrepancy of 700c to 860c/kg cwt. The better processing lambs were generally in a range of 750c to 820c/kg cwt.

Heavy export lambs from $229 to a top of $279/head, and there was some strong lambs of lambs around 32kg cwt which pushed over 800c/kg cwt. Heavy lambs 26-30kg cwt from $212 to $235/head and this category was showing a lot of price variation based on quality and if domestic buyers step in to purchase or not. Good trade lambs were dearer, the 24-26kg cwt pens from $203 to $218 and the 22-24kg cwt lots from $190 to $205/head. But plainer trade lambs in a similar weight band sold down to $168/head. Most light lambs with reasonable frame from $135 to $160/head selling to both processors and local restockers.

The sheep market trended $5 to $10 dearer with some young Merino trade wethers selling strongly to record a bigger rise. Heavy ewes $190 to $230 with the middle run of sheep from $135 to $185/head. Light and secondary mutton $78 to $130/head. Good lines of sheep were estimated at 590c to 640c/kg cwt, with premiums of over 700c paid for some Merino wethers.
